Hemp Batteries
With the legalization of hemp there is certainly no shortage of it. It turns out that the inner bark of the hemp plant can be processed to make a graphene-like carbon monolayer with greater surface area than graphene itself. This results in higher conductivity, higher energy density and faster charge times when made into batteries or supercapacitors than traditional batteries and capacitors. They can also be produced at a mere fraction of what it costs to produce their traditional graphene counterparts, with minimal impact on the environment– by using hemp waste.
Researchers are finding that in many cases the batteries and capacitors made out of hemp outperform lithium ion. But the greatest benefit is the cost savings on production. Our location in the Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon gives us abundant access to leftover industrial hemp waste.
We plan on building hemp cells and researching their viability as a power source.
